Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability that affects an individual’s ability to communicate, understand language and learn. ASD is called a “spectrum disorder” because an individual may have some or all of the characteristics, varying from mild to severe.
Educational Support
Students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) may require support to access the general education curriculum. MC-ISD's staff provide direct and consultative services to students and school district's in accordance with students' Individual Education Program (IEP). All educational staff members work collaboratively with caregivers to enhance the child's communication, social, behavioral, cognitive, and sensorimotor development with particular emphasis on areas of need.
MC-ISD staff can help support the needs of students with ASD to be successful in the school environment:
- Assists school personnel with intervention strategies
- Participates in team meetings
- Conducts trainings for educational staff
- Identify and coach implementation of supports and accommodations to the curriculum
- Aids in the development and review of behavioral interventions
