      UnderMCL 380.1284b, Michigan school districts cannot start their school year untilafter Labor Day.  If a school districtseeks to start its school year prior to Labor Day, it must receive a waiverfrom the Department of Education.  Thislaw requires a school district to host a public hearing before a decision onthe Labor Day waiver is made.
